Bio

Hi and welcome! My name is Dawn Melton. This is my 2nd year with Tutorshop and I am very excited about our program and what we have to offer. I'm a certified teacher with 20+ years experience in grades K-8. After graduating from Kennesaw State University, I began my career teaching 6th and 7th grade middle school Social Studies and Science. When my own children started school, I transitioned to elementary school where I taught all grade levels but primarily 4th and 5th grade math, science and Special Education. My areas of specialty in Special Education are ADHD, behavior disorders and Autism. I also have certifications in Gifted Education and ESOL. My entire teaching career I had an inclusive classroom that included gifted students, ESOL students and special needs students. I have always had a strong passion for working with children and love watching them learn and grow academically and socially. I am married with 3 grown children of my own, two sons and 1 daughter. I also have 2 fur babies (doggies) named Zeus and Barnaby. My hobbies include being outside in nature (hiking, on the lake), planting and gardening, and spending quality time with my family. I would love the opportunity to work with your child whether it be on an assignment, study and prepare for an upcoming test, or just to help them get organized. I know I have the experience and desire to make this a great experience for you and your child. Again, welcome to Tutorshop!

Education

*I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Education from Kennesaw State University. *I have coursework completed toward a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from West Georgia University. *I hold certifications in Gifted Education, Special Education and ESOL Education. *I taught the after school extended enrichment program for 3rd-5th graders throughout my elementary teaching career. *I was a member of the textbook and curriculum adoption committee throughout my elementary teaching career. *I was the grade level representative for the PTO organization at the elementary school level. *I coached Science Olympiad in both middle and elementary school.
